Want a awsome looking black widow any suggestion?
« on: January 22, 2011, 12:03:00 PM »
I am going to order a pch x next month and can't decide what  wood or combination of woods would look awesome.  Really want it to be a eye catcher any suggestions?

You're going to get a real amount of varied responses here! I say go with what you like. I myself am partial to Osage. It's darkening with age factor makes it one of the coolest bow woods I know.

Ya have a bunch of choices here.... but you already know that.

If you are going to arder an X bow you need to make the choice.  Look at the woods available and then, ya might want to take a day or so (I don't know where ya are in IN) make a drive over to Nixa.  I did and it was worth every gallon of gas.

I actually ordered a pretty basic PL II with grip options and just two little "tweeks" to the look. Its a PL II TD 64" but different grip, highlites like the lazer overlays except in fiberglass and a built out shelf.  I like basic.  My current PLX is a knock out with bocote limbs and cocobolo in the riser.

Good luck

I like the looks of the cross grain options that they offer.  Do a search for some bows posted by Steel.  Cody sure has some great looking Black Widows, probably the nicest looking ones in my opinion, and has a pretty good eye for wood combinations.

Mooseman is that olive ash in the top picture?   Really like the olive ash limbs.  But trying to decide what riser would look good.  On the cover of the 2010 catalog there is a picture of a pch with olive ash limbs with a dark riser I think it is either ironwood or kingwood.  Kinda got that combination in mind.

Hello to a fellow Hoosier! There are so many beautiful combo's that it makes really hard to pick. That top pic of mooseman76 is a dandy. Terry had a awesome looking widow on here a while back, if you do a search you'll probably find it. Good luck with your decision! Jason

I had a Coco bolo/Osage riser PTFX with bamboo cored limbs and Osage veneers. It was one handsome bow.

Similar to the Golden Anninversary bows they introduced to celebrate thier 50th year.

Coco/osage. Zircote/osage. Kingwood/osage. Mine was Bolivian rosewood/myrtle and beautiful, but It didnt agree with me. I like my longbows best.

Tulipwood gets my vote too.  I've got a Tulipwood PAX with black accents... absolutely stunning.  I'm partial to it though.  I like the grain and colors of Tulipwood so much that I overlayed the pegheads (front & back) and neck heels on two of my banjos with it a few years ago (thanks to Jim Jones of Firefly Bows for grinding the Tulipwood stock down to the thickness that I needed).

Good luck... There's lots to choose from.  I'm sure you will find a combo that works for you.

There was one on here a coupla' months ago that was really handsome-largely Osage and darker laminates. No reds, or blues-looked like wood.
