Which one do YOU shoot more accurtely, a longbow or recurve?
« on: January 22, 2011, 04:15:00 PM »
I seem to shoot my longbows more accurtely. I really don't know if its the feel of it or thats just what I am used to. Was wondering what YOU shoot better with, a longbow or recurve.

I DO NOT want this to turn into a " what kind of bow is better thread"..   :readit:    ONLY what YOU personally shoot better. Lets hear it fellas

.......you should have added both equal. I shoot just as well with either.
Bowhunting is "KILL and EAT" not "Catch and Release".....Semper Fi!

I also shoot both equally, as poorly with one as the other.

hard to say.   Right now I am shooting a longbow better.  But I hadn't shot the recurve for a couple of months last time I picked it up.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

I don't know why, I just seem to shoot a longbow better. It feels wore comfortable to me.

When I first started this "Trad Stuff" I shot a recurve. Took me a long time to learn how to shoot the right way. Been in love with longbows for a while, but when I pick up my old BW I'm dead accurate with her now! So... To answer your question:

"Longbow". No "Recurve"! Wait... "Longbow" Forget It!

If I spent as much time shooting a longbow I could probably shoot as well with one as I do with a recurve, but I just love shooting recurves... Love the draw and the way they shoot... So I voted recurve.

BOTH...

I've learned it's all in the tuning.

However-

I consider my longbow to be my small game weapon and when deer season comes around the recurve goes to the stand.

Richard-I shoot a recurve much better of the two. For some reason a longbow is much more difficult to shoot than a recurve for me! Thanks.

I still believe the term longbow is used too loosely, and that there needs to be a definite deflex-reflex / hybrid / longcurve category.

I think I shoot a recurve slightly better than I do a D-longbow, and that better than I do a deflex-reflex longbow.

I've shot several differant type "longbows" but I don't shoot them as good as I do recurves. The curves just seem to be smoother ( for me anyway ). I do like the look of the reflex/deflex bows, and will probably own one...one of these days. For now I'll stick to my recurve! Jason

The bows I made my self were always the most accurate for me but none of them had the sufficient hunting weight.

Id have to say that i shoot recurves better than long bows.... must have some Hun blood in me  ;)

well, i'm not really sure. this is kind of a "dead" time of the year for me, as it's been so cold i don't really want to shoot outside at my bale like i would normaly, and i currently have nowhere to shoot inside, other than a compound range i have going to lately. that being said, i have been practicing with my hybrid longbow that i want to use for spring turkey(griffin), and shooting very well. i would also like to get much better; with both. i now realize i haven't answered the question, and don't know how to------. yikes!!      :banghead:

If I shoot with locked up static target form i am more accurate with a moderately long recurve, if I shoot my short recurve with with Hill form not good at all.  The problem with that locked up static form, the deer never seem to be standing where I am pointing.  I think I will stick with my Hill style longbows.
