Honest to God, this is the first time I've done this. I've spent the last 3 months or so doing a lot of research online and asking a ton of questions.

I bought a cheap set of brushes from the local hobby shop. The wide black base was done with a #6 round brush. The orange bands were painted with a #3 round brush. The gold pinstripes were done with a #0. To get a thinner line, I guess i could have used a 00, but it worked fine.

The shafts were cut to 28.5" and were spine matched to 70#.

I just put them up for sale on the Classifieds board...just looking to recoup costs for materials.

Just looking to get everyone's opinion. Trying to see if I'll be able to turn this hobby into a small business and get my arrows out into more hunters' hands.

I think they look beautiful, nice job. I'ld try the heavier point before I sold them.

maineac, I would too, but I've got 100 125grain points laying around and 2 190s. The weight is just right with the 125s. I don't want to have to get used to shooting 2 different weight arrows, so I think I'll just sell them.

If nobody wants them, I'll pick up some more 190s and use them for stumping.

They look real fine to me. I'd like to see a picture up close of your homemade cresting machine without the paper towels in the rollers. Do you have the drill fastened down? That is a great idea. What brushes are you using? You should get a small chick feeder trough at the feed store for a spillage catch and you will have the "Ultimate Redneck Cresting Machine" I like it and you did a really great job!

I'll get some more pics of the crsting machine after work today. The drill isn't fastened down. It's just laying there. I've got a long enough piece of surgical tubing attached so I don't have to worry about alignment.

I used a #6 round brush for the big black band, a #3 round brush for the orange stripe and a #0 for the pinstripes. They all came in a pack of 6 for about 8 bucks at the local hobby shop. I like the round brushes because they come to a clean tip to keep the edge of the bands under control.

I had to mix a good amount of thinner into the paint to get good coverage without being too thick. Unfortunately, the black underneath the orange bled through because of the thinner. Next time I'm going to separate the bands.

I started on my second set last night. This time, they're the right length. 30.5". They'll look the same, but I'll separate the cresting bands over the white cap dip to prevent paint bleeding.

I should be done with them tonight, so I'll post as soon as I can.
