What are these - Sight Brackets???
«
on:

A recently purchased a project recurve to fix (you can see the holes in the riser) and clean up. It has these brackets on the front of the riser. I assume they are for a sight, but the tangs point down and not up. Any help will be appreciated.
Also, should I take them off before refinishing, or leave them on, or take them off and then replace after I have finished the bow?
Thanks.

Pretty interesting, Rick, but I have no idea. Are you going to Compton? Perhaps someone there would know.

No idea, but if they come off without getting damaged I would take them off before you refinish and possibly replace them afterwards. It looks like they are squeezed on so there is likely some wood compression that you will need to repair.

Given their location I would say it was for a bow sight.

Hey guys I used to make tons of those when I worked for Saunders archery. They're self adhesive sight mounting brackets. They're stamped out of copper so they would bend to fit the riser and were designed to allow the sight to be removed for travel or replaced if broken.

By the way it looks like they were put on upside down. You can take them off and remove the glue residue with wd40.

Budog56 Saunders archery is located in Columbus NE you anywhere close? They also still make outsterts for the small diameter pultruded carbon arrows if anyone is looking for some.

Thanks guys. BenBow I think you are exactly right. They came off very easy and were applied with a sort of double sided tape and are very malleable. I think that I will hang on to them but not put them back on when I have finished the bow. Rick

Ben Bow is correct. I just last week saw a bow complete with the sights on it.

You might try contacting Saunders archery and see if they might have any laying around. Just do a search for saunders archery
