Red Elm Bow pics!
« on: January 25, 2011, 04:41:00 PM »
Another thread on here has sparked my interest in Red Elm. I'm wondering, if used as veneers, what riser wood would go well with them? Can anyone share pics of their bows with red elm limbs?

No pictures but I've had a number of bows built with red elm limbs and cocobolo risers-very nice combo.

Cocobola was made for red elm.

The Mohawk on the right has the Red Elm limbs with Cocobolo riser and accents.
Makes a good combo I think.

Eric.

Gobblegrunter....honestly can't remember.  This bow was built for me by Roger Hollenbeck about 15 years ago.  I want to say Cocobolo or Bocote.

Cocobolo and bocote in the riser, with red elm limb faces.  This elm had some pretty fish eyes in it.

gobblegrunter...   my photobucket account is currently close to swamped with photos for the swap bow thread and I don't want to make it worse, but if you don't mind a link, here is a red elm with cherry riser longbow I did a couple of years back.  Not fancy, just a nice looking bow...

The nice thing about elm is it is a light wood and can be stained to go with about anything.

Here's my Martin Dreamcatcher. I don't know the riser woods off hand, but the limbs are red elm.

Gobblegrunter, I sold the bow about 3 years ago, I think it had Shedua in the riser?
