My Thunderhorn Coup Stick
« on: January 25, 2011, 07:42:00 PM »
Hello all. I am still a very new guy here. I got a wild hair up my butt about 3 mos. ago that I wanted to get into Trad. archery. Been hunting with rifle and compound for several seasons.

So, I scooped up a 25-30 lb. throw away english style longbow and learned proper form. Then I decided I wanted my 'real' bow, and I had a Remington 700 .270 that was taking up too much room in the safe, and never seeing the light of day. So.. finding this bow for sale locally, and reading about it and about Duane Jessop; I traded the .270 to a guy for this Thunderhorn.

I fell in LOVE with it as soon as I placed my hands on it, and the only way I can define it is flawless. Mind you, this is my first custom longbow. However, this piece of art reminds me of a high end musical instrument, like an orchestra violin.

I have shot it every single day since I got it, and it is hard to put down. The 1 lb. or less (at least that is how it feels) makes putting it down harder.. I even find myself drawing it in my bedroom before bed. My wife thinks I am crazy.   :)

After only about a week I have this bow stacking arrows one on top of another at 10-15 yards.

Anyhow, just wanted to show off my new bow and say that I am officially hooked. I haven't even LOOKED at my compound bow since I got this thing.

Specs: Thunderhorn Coup Stick 58", Draws 55# @ 26" (My draw length is abut 27 1/2). Elk Antler Inlaid in the riser, Elk antler tips, Cocobolo and orangewood riser, fast flight string.

Arrows: Gold Tip 5575, 4" Feathers, 175 gr. FP.

62" Craig Warren Black Timber 3PC T/D Recurve: 48lb @ 28".

My first custom bow was a Thunderhorn Coupe Stick. 10 years later, I still have it. Great bows!

Pretty bow, bending sticks with strings is very adictive.

I'd make that trade any day. Haven't shot my rifle in almost 10 years.
TGMM-Family of the Bow

The quest to improve is so focused on a few design aspects & compensating for hunter ineptness as to actually have reduced a bow & arrow’s effectiveness. Nothing better demonstrates this than mech. BHs & speed fixated designs
