Just saying thanks to Kentucky for the elk that will be introduced into Missouri this year. About 50 will be coming from Kentucky.

The KY elk project has been a huge success. Does anyone know about neighboring states ? What I mean is, are the KY elk starting to populate to the point where they are crossing state borders ? Being in Indiana, I can see the time when elk make it across the Ohio and into Ohio and Indiana.

I don't think they'll mnake it North any as they are open to shoot in the "Out of Zone" counties that border the elk units, as long as you have purchased an elk chance, but I believe many have trecked into TN and WV and VA.
This is a map of the established Elk Counties..

Actally now Lowebow, you must purchase an out of zone elk permit rather than a drawing chance. Very few elk get killed out of zone...
WV, VA, and TN have KY elk wandering around, now VA and WV are planning reintroductions from what I hear...

Flinttim - Yeah, they'd be long dead before they reached Ohio...8^)
wapiti1997 - Yeah, just recently read about the WV elk reintroduction:
http://www.wvdnr.gov/Publications/Draft_Elk_Plan.pdf
And, from what I've read, PA's herd was reintroduced almost a hundred years ago (1913) but hasn't faired near as well as KY's.

Great info. I've got drawn for a cow archery, now I just need help figuring out what zones to apply for, public land would be nice, if its not to crowded, elk have a habit of leaving, if they feel pressured and when they leave, they leave!

I missed the drawing this year after being in it for the last few years. I'll make sure to get it done early next year. I consider it a contribution to a worthwhile effort of helping the herd.

Well no luck on the draw, but these $20 are better spent than the turkey hunting license this year....

I'm hoping a few wander down into GA, but I will never see a season for them here in my lifetime. It would still be nice to see them!
