This "Sapelo" has a twin!
« on: January 29, 2011, 06:29:00 AM »
Just finished this one, which I really like the colors combos on.  She is a 66" mild R/D longbow that draws 41@27.  Wenge and osage riser, boo cores, bubinga limb faces, and buffalo overlays.

The original build is 64" nock-nock, missed weight, and will finish in the mid to upper 30s at 28".  I still need to shape the riser/grip, and final finish.  The original has osage and ebony overlays.  I thought this would be perfect for some special lady.  I just need to find that lady, so that I can finish the other bow to her specs.

Not too shabby there Marty...not too shabby at all. When that osage darkens a bit, she will be even better.

I'm hating the wenge!!!  I think it's one of the very best looking riser woods, but it's really tough to level the pores.  I'm about to give up on it, and not use it any more.

Thanks for the compliments!

Marty, I was just about to ask you about the pours!  If it wasn't for those little suckers, I think it would be one of my favorite woods.
That bow looks awesome...great job as usual!

THAT"S MY BOW!!!!! Got to see it on here before it arrives. Marty sent it out on Friday so I figure probably Tuesday B4 I finally get my hands on her. Needless to say I CAN'T WAIT!!! It looks fantastic Marty. I'll post more after I shoot her a while. For anyone who wants a 1st class person to deal with, Marty Thompson is truly above the normal by a long shot.. I have "absolutely no doubts" as to the quality of bow he builds after dealing with him. He definitely won't ship out anything that doesn't meet his exacting standards.(Perfection) It has been a pleasure to deal with him.. Just for an example, Marty told me that he wrapped the grip with one kind of leather,"I didn't like it" so "I redid it with another type leather and it just didn't look right" so I found a piece of beaver tail and that really came out good. I usually charge more for a beaver tail wrap but it's no charge". I told him that I would pay the extra and he said no. I insisted that I would and he told me that he would just send the check back to me if I did.. A real good honest man are my thoughts..

"A real good honest man"...c'mon now! Are we talking about the same guy here? The same Marty Thompson hog & deer killer, creator of laminated weapon slinger art from Georgia? Find me something anyone has ever said contrary to him ever being a stand up honest man & bowyer.

How's that Marty? Got my 50 bucks? Kiddin. If you folks know Marty you know he's straight arrow. You don't you should.

Sixby, Marty told me that "he we playing hell with the wenge", that he filled the pores with a good quality super glue which turns the wenge almost ebony looking and then when he'd sand it back to the wenge to show the grain, that it would pull the glue out of the pores. He did this numerous times and it was driving him crazy. Would smooth on given better results than super glue?
