Thanks everyone for the kind words. She read them all except for the last 2 hours worth (as she has gone to bed).

In all honesty, I would much rather teach someone that knows NOTHING about archery. I have taught several people to shoot and my best students have often been people that just do what I ask without questioning it. Typically, kids are rather easy to teach. They don't say, "I like it this way, or I can't do that." They just do it and often times in as little as a 3 or 4 sessions they are showing very good form.

Adults or experienced archers are much more difficult.
Until next time...good shooting,
Lee

Great shooting Courtney.  Sounded like fine coaching to me Lee.  Not overbearing, just reminding her the goal of her practice.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

She asked me to tell everyone thank you for the kind and supportive words. My wife said, with a bunch of guys like what she sees here, it surprises her that there are not more women in archery.

Guru, those are Heritage 90s. We also have some 70's but I haven't made them up yet. The 90's seem to work fine, but we did have to use a 145 or a 175 gr tip...I forget as I made them 6 months ago. When I get ready to make her some more I will check that...

Also, her bow is only 28#@26"...but it is 62" long. When the time comes for her to step up in bow weight I will have her another bow for hunting, but I have thought about just cutting that bow down to 60" and that would bring it close to 35#@26" I suspect. No rush though...as form is more important than accuracy right now, and accuracy is more important than bow weight right now. If she works on it regularly, then we hope to have her ready for hunting season next winter. I would love to see her get a whitetail with her bow. Funny though, she keeps talking about hogs. I wonder if I may should to take her to a hog ranch or something to keep her "pumped." Even if we limit her to a small hog (even a javalina), it would mean a lot to her.
Until next time...good shooting,
Lee

She's a great shot already, just imagine how good she will be a few years from now.

I've been trying to coach my nephew on his form and release, but as long as he's close to right and not developing any real bad habits I just let him fling arrows. I found that too much advice all at once is hard for him to absorb and takes some of the fun out of it. So I have to control myself and just let him have fun with it.
Of course I correct him when I see something bad wrong that he's doing, or if he pulls a shot real bad and misses the target completely. Then I stop him and explain why he pulled that shot off.
I wish I had a coach to stand back and watch me shoot, then tell me what I'm doing wrong sometimes.

Great job dad, and keep a bow in that little lady's hands, I think she's a natural!
