Another "Hill" thread...with blood
« on: January 29, 2011, 09:35:00 PM »
Got a chance to go to Fort stewart today. Met up with a couple of good friends and we headed for the woods. We got to one of my "good" areas and I went to hunt a drain a couple of ridges over and my Buddies struck out on the "Turkey" road.....

I went only a short ways and one of the biggest flocks of Turkeys I`ve ever seen scattered. After a few minutes you could hear kee-kee`s and yelps. Man I wish we had a fall/winter season here.

I probably went 3/4 a mile walking in a lot of hog sign when I stopped to admire a fine White Oak and a Huge Magnolia side by side. Best Gardner thats ever been planted them.I heard a slight rustle and looked up in time to see a black back move through some galberries about 40 yards ahead of me.I hit the "sneak" mode and started easing ahead. I got to where I thought I should see or hear movement and I spotted a Huge Boar at about 25 yards. I snuck ahead a bit and stopped and was trying to calm some. Them pigs make my heart beat FAST!!!
I spotted a bit of movement to my left and it was another hog coming across in front of me. I moved ahead a bit to cut it off and waited. The pig came by at 6-8 steps and I hit anchor and that "blur" of yellow feathers mixed with a crack and squeel all seemed to happen at once.Porkers scattered in every direction and then all was quiet.

I dropped a piece of paper from my cargo pocket where I was standing and walked directly to where the pig was standing when I shot and did the same there. It was so thick you could only see 20 yards or so and there were hogs running every direction so hearing my pig fall was impossible. I sat on a log to calm down and get my head together..

I got my thoughts together and started looking for blood and found a start purty quick...

Went on and came to some water...

If you pay attention and look before stepping you can trail one in water..

And at the end of a very good blood trail....

Lot of folks wonder about what draws folks to shoot a Hill style bow. I don`t know.My Mohawk is calmer. Recurves are more "solid" for me...But shooting Hill bows and hunting with one is what I enjoy the most in bowhunting so I guess thats my "why". I feel a thump at the shot but I can shoot a controlled shot faster and more accurate with my Hill bow than with most anything else. Thanks for the Big 5 Thomas I owe you Brother.Thank You Lord for another fine day.RC

Great story RC!

It's not hard to see why we love to shoot Hills.

I am the bow hunter I want to be when I have my Hill in my hand.
