Renewed to traditional archery
« on: January 30, 2011, 05:51:00 PM »
Hi All, I just started back to traditional after 30 years. I started hunting with a recurve at age 15 and wasn't very successful. At age 16 I got my first compound and hunted with one til last  year. I had started to get an interest in tradional again and bought a recurve but learning all over again is tough. Now I want to go trad only. I'm currently looking at and shooting some longbows and hope with consistent practice I should be ready for archery season this fall.

Enjoy the journey.  I am sure you can make it by next fall.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

You're story is very similar to my own. I'm a few months into the transition now and have succumb to the simple elegance and beauty of the longbow. I am now enjoying archery more than I ever have. After having listened with an humble ear, I have avoided many of the problems I had years ago with traditional archery and am well pleased with my progress.
Having done so much, with so little, for so long, I can now do anything with nothing.

Welcome!
I hope that your journey down this path less traveled provides you with as much fun and satisfaction as it has for me since I made the switch back 3+ years ago

Thanks, for the replies. I plan on going to some local traditional shoots and hopefully pick up as many pointers as I can. I am really enjoying this so far. It has made archery fun again!

Now the only problem is I cant wait to get home from work so I can shoot some more! I'm home waiting to leave for a Dr appt. but as soon as I get back I'll definitely shoot til dark! Wish there were more people close to me to shoot with. Anyone here in SW Pennsylvania? Actually I live in Fayette Co.
