New Leon Stewart Longbow
« on: February 01, 2011, 05:54:00 PM »
Leon Stewart called me Sunday afternoon to say  that my new longbow was ready to pick up. Got in the truck and drove over to Leon's. I spent a few hours talking about old times and life in general. Good visit with Leon as usual. Couldn't put the bow down the whole time...LOL!

The new longbow is the "Slammer Special" 62" inches long - 50# @28" bamboo cores, wild looking burled Elm limbs with flared riser of curly maple and cocobolo.

Enjoy the pictures...

Sweet.........
Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing. TGMM ♥

Beautiful bow Ron. In your opinion, how does the Special compare to the original Slammer? Mike

That's a beautiful bow!   I always enjoy Leon's bows at the Baltimore Bowman's Classic every year!   The man's skills and craftsmanship are second to none.

Very nice looking bow there for sure.  How does it shoot?  I would like a better pic of those veneers out in the daylight and maybe one of it strung to see the limb profile.

She's a looker Ron - very nice!

I sent my '96 longbow to Leon about a month ago to refinish.  This has been my "go to" hunting bow for most of 15 years.  Leon called today and told me she is ready.  Can't wait to get her back.  I won this bow at the Charlotte PBS silent auction.  I'll post some pics a couple days.

Thanks for the kind words. Believe me this bow shoots as good as it looks.

Martin - I won't be there at the club this week but should be there next Thursday.

Follower - I saw your bow there on Sunday. Leon was talking about refinishing it...nice bow.

Lone hunter - I have owned many Leon Stewart bows and for some reason this one has special mojo. I have never owned the Slammer Special before but I can say it's the way to go. I had to shoot it Sunday evening in my basement and the bow is smooth all the way through the draw. It hits right where I'm looking and the grip is perfect for my hand. Zero hand shock. I'm shooting 35/55 Carbon Tech Whitetail carbons out of it with a 175 grain tip. Leon set me up with arrows as well. Leon knows what makes his bows shoot.

Ron, beautiful bow! Leon called me last Friday saying that my bow was ready.  Can't wait to receive it!  It's a 1-pc. Slammer Special, 62", 45 lbs. @ 28".  Marado riser with bamboo and ash lams, (birdseye veneers on belly and back).  Wish you the best with yours.

You are a lucky man.  As you well know Leon is a hell of a guy and knows how to get a bow to deliver every bit of power it has to the arrow ... and still has a very stable limb and is real quiet.  That slammer is flat out to 30 yards even with heavy hunting weight arrows.

Nice bow man!
