Feather Splicing Video
« on: February 02, 2011, 06:39:00 PM »
Here is a quick feather splicing video that I did. This is a membrane splice, it's quick and easy and you can do 36 feathers in a few hours or quicker once you get good. Start to finish on this feather is barely 3 minutes. This is not as fast as just butting two feathers together but you can get a much cleaner looking splice doing it this way.

There's a lot of good methods and tutorials out there but I figured I'd add one more.

Awesome thanks for the video. Splicing really adds a custom look to feathers.

Thank you that video.  You make it look so darn easy.  It sure does look a whole lot nicer than butting them together.

Maybe I've gotten some old full length feathers or something, but when I try and strip the quills off they don't come off as nice and even as the video shows....?

“instinctive archery” is more like playing the violin. Without practice you may remember the mechanics, but you will not be a virtuoso.

I just did a bunch of these last week. I can attest that this is the best way I have tried to splice feathers. I used Duco as my glue.I did have some trouble with breakage early on. What I did to solve this was start to peel the membrane as instructed for about a 1/2 inch. After that I held the quill down on the table, feather up, and continued to peel while keeping my finger close to the split. Try it that way snag and see if you have better luck.

I must have to use a sharper blade because I have more difficulty striping the qull off than the video shows.  Great Video!
