Ever just HAVE to shoot?
« on: February 02, 2011, 11:12:00 PM »
It hit me tonight around 10 o'clock as I was thinking about going to bed. I got dressed and went outside for 30 minutes to shoot. My house light barely lights up my target, it's below freezing with high winds, 3 feet of snow in the yard and my deer target is half buried. And I shot great out to 25yds! I feel much better and now I can get some sleep. Does anyone else ever just have such an urge to shoot that you can't relax until you fling some arrows?

Yep, especially when you get a new bow or new arrows built, new string or just wondering how a new setup shoots- almost any time of night out in the backyard with a little light will do for a dozen or 2 shot mind fix !!

Skipmaster - Your story reminds me that I'm not alone. Recall one summer night about 2:00 am with flood lights on the target and shooting in my skivees. Probably wouldn't have taken too much notice, however my wife's response engraved an indelible mark.

Sorry hun...yes, I'm crazy.

I have to shoot every day, just to remind myself that I don’t need another bow. That only works as long as I have a bow in my hand.

Snow emergency here the last two days, so I have been shooting through the house. However, I still look at the classifieds in my spare time. Now, I feel the need to shoot some more.

The only time I don't feel like shooting is when I'm shooting.

Gotta get that fix!

The time when I'm shooting is the only time that thinking about or wanting to shoot, is not consuming some portion of my mental energy.

You bet.....except the wind chill the last couple of days has changed it from "have to shoot"...to "have to stay inside & fiddle with my equipment".     :biglaugh:

I get this urge many times a day, luckily i go four steps from my desk, open two doors and then am able to shoot inside @ 10 yards   :D

Really helps, i think ill fling a few now

I have a target or two at my shop so when the urge hits I can sling a few. I seem to get more shooting done than work some days though!!

There are days when I'm at work when I just can't wait till I get home so I can go shoot. Still after all these years of shooting a bow.

Yes all the time. I shoot everyday I am not travelling for work.Form shoot in the morning before going to work, form shoot in the evening before bed. Usually between that I shoot outside after dinner, vary my distance from 0 - 35 yards. On weekends it is half hour sessions outside all times of the day and night -- just have to shoot, it a great way to have some fun!!! thanks Jerry.

All the time, I have to keep from shooting too much. A little hard on my old shoulders. My wife says that I am a little excessive (she means a lot). HA! I was out yesterday morning 0 degs with a 8 mile wind, still shot 28 arrows only. Did good but hands got pretty cold. Told the wife that I need the practice in the same type of weather that I hunt in. Says that this just confirms that I am Nuts. Sure God Bless Don

I try to MAKE myself NOT to shoot every day but I usually do shoot at least once/day and many more times most days.  It doesn't happen much anymore but there have been a few times in my life when I would get up in the wee hours and go to the basement range and shoot. Just an end of 4-6 arrows and I was relaxed and ready to finish the sleep.  I've even put a piece of aluminum foil on my target so it will shine in the dark so I can shoot from my porch.
