Best Safety Harness with Linesman Harness???
« on: February 05, 2011, 10:10:00 AM »
I am looking to buy a new Safety Harness. I have just purchased a LW Alpha lock on with LW climbing sticks. I want to purchase a harness with the linesmans harness that will be easy to use to set up the Climbing Sticks and the Stand. I have used a SOP for the past several years and it has worked fine with my climbing stands. It is not the easiest to put on over bulky hunting clothes. Please give me your opinions and advantages and disadvantages of each harness. The Muddy Outdoors Harness is interesting. Can anyone compare this harness to other ones? Thanks!

I'm can't say whats best. But, for the past three seasons I've been using the HSS harness. Mine is the older style, abit heavier than the newer ones, but I like it, and wouldn't be in a tree without it.

In my opinion the SOP is still the best harness out there for the money. The others don't do anything different for your safety and I feel are overpriced because of that.

I bought the skeleton harness I think was an HSS product but I'm not sure.  It's out in the shed and it's raining.  I like it for the light weight and lack of bulk in warm weather.

My SOP Fastback is as nice and easy to use as any I have seen.  If I stretch this one, I'll get another.

I use the HSS. It has loops for attaching a lineman's belt. I use a piece of climbing rope and two carabiners for a lineman's belt. Works fine. Used it today to pull a couple of treestands.

I have used the original seat of the pants harness for 15 years. Connected to the tree from the time you leave the ground till you touch back down. I have lots of bills cant afford to fall and get hurt!.

Check out the Rescue One CDS (Controlled Descent System) from Mountaineer Sports.  http://www.mountaineer-sports.com/
They have several demonstration videos on their website.  I purchased one prior to the season last fall and I love it.  I've never felt safer than while using this harness.  You can use is as a lineman harness as well.

Haven't posted much as of late but when I seen this thread as a lineman, I want you to know that any of those harnesses do not give you 100% fall protection. Please when you use your harness to put up tree stands or climbing sticks always use a fall rope attached to the lanyard of your harness. It may seem like a pain (until you get used to it) but it's a much better pain than the one you can experience from a bad fall. Please be safe out there!!

I am not sure what a "fall rope" is supposed to be or how it functions.
