Marty, why dont you hunt the acorn stands? Are they too plentiful to capitalize on any one locale? The most hogs I saw at Rays last year were in the big acorns, I think they are chestnut oaks. Not certain. Hope your sons alright.

I've shot some big pigs in the past but the last few years I much prefer shooting them in the 50-150# range myself, big hogs are just too much trouble to deal with and since I like to eat them, the smaller ones are usually better anyway and to me a pig is a pig, so not into the "trophy" aspect of hog hunting, I just like to shoot hogs!

Yep Izzy- First of all-my feeders are all in the oaks-miles of em. But the oaks are also in the palmetto's ,sooooo they don't have to even move. Tried stalking but it's like walking on dry cereal. Got pic's at feeders-but all at nite.Usually I'll get 500 or more pics a week at feeders-gettin maybe 80.Definitely prefer natural food.

That is a nasty wound for sure! I give hogs a lot of respect and I admit to be a little nervous when the big blue boar walked right up to us crouched on the trail in the brush. Hope the leg wound heals fast and gives him no trouble.

Yowza that wound is nasty. Looks like a big single bevel broadhead wound...sewing up an anterior leg wound is tough with that much gaping. Plus all the crap on those tusks. Hope he's ok Marty and back to chasin' 'em  :)

I know what you mean, Marty. Are those live oaks ...or reds and water oaks? Our reds just stopped dropping in January and I've never seen the numbers we saw this year- but no whites or chestnut oak acorns at all.

Yessir- that's a nasty cut. That's why I don't chase them with dogs...they're a lot more docile when not cornered like they are with the pups.

Hope your son has an uneventful and healthy recovery from a cut like that.  Keep em coming!

Ray, I had forgotten about that hog. I think that one  caused me to take the longest shower I have ever had.

Until this thread, I had never taken any interest in pursueing hogs. I am inspired. Just like turkeys for me - it would appear that any legal hog would just hrill me.
