Bow you took your animal with and your home location
« on: February 08, 2011, 10:21:00 PM »
This is a poll wondering about bow choice based on hunter's home location.

I am interested in confirming/disproving an observation

I'm from NE, so is that east or west?  Since I've hunted in IA, I counted that as east and the rest I counted as west.

The thing is, I tried to vote just once (west) and the poll wouldn't let me.  Isn't that going to force guys to answer both questions even if they've only hunted one location?  Just asking.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies, by eastern I mean from any state east of the mississippi river, and western any state west of the mississippi river.

Which one do you primarily use to harvest your game?

I would be western according to your definition, but I killed deer with both recurve and longbow this year.  How do I answer?

I have hunted with a longbow East or West so I marked it for both. I don't think the format will give you the answer you are looking for the way it is.

I live and hunt in Utah. The poll would not let me answer number 2, had to answer both.

Interesting concept, but I did not vote as I use both recurves and longbows as well as assorted styles of primitive bows.  I consider myself a western hunter (and person) by nature, but I suppose the majority of my hunting is done is a more "eastern" fashion, as I am from the Arkansas hills and hunt in heavily wooded areas with lots of tall hardwoods, flowing water, etc.  I have spent several years in Kansas and that is a big different.  Wonderful country either way though.

And I digress rather easily.

I live east but hunt east and west with a recurve. That's the way I voted. I'm surprised by the majority of longbow hunters. I shouldn't be though:
1. There are a lot of LB folks on this site.
2. Us recurve guys are too busy admiring our bows to vote. LOL

Format wont let you answer one or the other. You have to answer both.

I haven't personally observed a difference east or west betweeen the percentage of longbow vs recurve shooters.  What I do observe is a regional preference for local bowyers.  Northern folks shoot a lot of bows that we don't hear much about in the south and vice versa.  Same thing east vs. west.  There are a lot of great bows out there that I only know about from the internet...

Your questionaire is all wrong and I don't think this poll will tell you anything. I live in the east and hunt by bow in the east, have never hunted the west with anything but a gun so I can't answer part 2 so the poll is telling me I have not finished. Huh  :dunno:

I used the Mississipi River to separate east from west, but the poll wants me to answer both questions in order to see the results. I can't do that because the first question does not apply to me.
