Hi all,

I am considering purchasing a Dwyer Original Longbow. I was wondering what your thoughts are on this bow?

My choice of poundage for this bow would be 42@28 and a length of 64." My draw length is 29" I am interested in a lighter weight bow as primarily a white-tail hunting bow, as well as an easy shooting target bow.

I like the Cocobolo, Bocote, Ebony double arch handle, but would like dark color limb veneers ( Gray-Actionwood or a nice darker brown limb veneers ) Any ideas? Pictures of your bow color combos would be great.

Great bows,the Dwyers are great people.I have a 64" 42#@28" original longbow,shoots very nice.It has an ebony riser w/ juniper limb veneers,sorry no pics.

You might want to talk to them about the length as it could be a little more comfortable at 66" for your drawlength. Either way, that is a nice buck in your avatar.

I have a Dauntless 43#'er, I would go for it if that's what you want! They make a real nice longbow!!

A Dwyer bow is very well made and his limb tips are works of art. He will be at the Iowa show as well as the WTA show in Steven's Point this month on the 26th. If you get a chance, you should look at his bows in person. Anyway, Dave is a great guy, he would be real helpful. As to your post on darker limbs, most woods can be stained darker, and red elm can be almost any hue you wish. I used to have a Deffiant made out of Black Walnut. That bow flung and arrow with athority. Dave only makes a 64 inch bow in one design, his longbow. It is a narrow limb, deeper cored "D" shaped bow. I had a 42 pounder, 66 inches at my 30 inch draw. Real quiet and had good speed I thought. Anyway, it shot where I wanted it to.

I own a 66" original with the deep core / narrow limb design. It's one of my all time favorite designs. I'd sell the one I have if anyone is interested. Dwyer crafts a fantastic bow.

I've shot the Dauntless and it is a great bow! I've seen and drawn the original but never shot one...it was smooth. It was a 66" if I remember correctly.

I had a 68" a few years ago. His design is friendly and quick and, as "Bob B" said, the limbs are a work of art. If I could find the guy I sold it to, I would pay more to get it back. It was gorgeous - quilted cherry.

Top notch!!

I met the Dwyers at the Trad Expo in Kalamazoo a few years back. Really nice people.

Ive have one of the original dwyers,shoot it daily for the last 10 yrs. tulip & bamboo for the limbs and coco. for riser. 66" 75@ 28 very fast n smooth.

The Dauntless is a great bow, the one I got is really sharp also, Myrtle Burl lams just beautiful!

Contact Slayer on here he shoots them. I have shot his they shoot good and are extremely quiet. They have a little more handshock than the Dauntless but I think I shoot them better.
The comment about length is right.LCH

Dwyer Originals are sweet bows. I ordered my first custom from the Dwyers back before they became a household name. I asked Dave what kind of woods he would use in a bow if he was making it for himself then asked him to make it for me. I got the trade bug and got rid of it.

I have an original now in the same specs but different woods. Shoots just like my first but a little heavy for me since I broke my left shoulder a few years back. I got this one used and it had a rubber sleeve on the grip. It didnt look right so I took it off and man was that some pretty wood it was hiding. I really like the grip without the sleeve of leather. Love those Dwyer Original.

I have four of Dave's original longbows all 66" can't say enough good things about them. Dave and Sue are great people to deal with, you'll be very happy with any of there bows.
