Wood Spine Question?

Thanks to Rob D. and Wannabes wood arrow build along now I have to try it for myself. I just recently bareshaft tuned my bow and ended up with GT 5575 trad arrows cut 29.25" with 275 grns up front. Plug these numbers into Stus calculator and I come up with a dynamic spine of 53. To get the same dynamic spine number of 53 with woodies I have to plug in the specs for a 65-70 Surewood woodie. Does this sound right? Ive never shot a wooden arrow in my life and Im just not sure where to start testing/tuning. Thanks SAM

It would be easier to figure out if you told us what your draw length is, the length of your arrow, the weight of your bow at your draw length and what kind of bow it is(so we can determine approx. center shot and efficiency). Gary

what bow, draw weight, cut to center?
String type, point weight?

For Me I go 10-15#'s over draw weight using 160grn point. My Jerry Hill LB is 50#@28" I draw 27". My Arrows are ASH 30"BOP 60-65 w/160grn points.. They fly like darts.

I really like using 3Rivers arrow shaft chart seems dead on to My set-up. Stu Miller's program is also good. Also I do flight and Paper tune, This seems to be the best for Me.

The bow is a Black Creek Banshee Recurve 51#@ 28". My draw is just under 28". The shelf is cut +3/16" I would like my arrows to be around 29" with around 200gr up front, total weight should end up around 600 grns. 8 strand fast flight string.

Don't get caught up deciding on arrow length until you see them fly. With that shelf cut 3/16 past and 200 gns up front you will need a lot of spine. I would say given your draw you will need 75/80.

I may have worded it wrong but my shelf is 3/16" pre-center, not past-center

Then go with a 65-70 and if you cut them it will still be in good shape.

I don't know. With that much weight up front I would try at least 70 lb. spine. Whatever you try you will probably have to try several different spines until you find what works for you. Even your release can make a difference. Gary
