New Roy Hall Cherokee(WOW!!)
« on: January 11, 2007, 05:36:00 PM »
I just got a like new Cherokee, it is 50#s at 28"s and this bow is sweet. I was told Roys bows were shooters but not real quick. Well this is his new design and although not the fastest bow I have shot, it smokes. No handshock at all and no doubt the quietest bow I have ever shot, period. I may have to shoot LB division at the Muzzy this year! Shawn

I got to shoot a Roy Hall longbow( can't remember what model)and even though it was quite a while ago I remember how smooth it drew and there was no handshock. That bow almost made this recurve guy think of getting a longbow.....almost.

Now you need an Apache to go along with it.

Mr. Hall sure does make some outstanding bows!!!!!

Several years ago I shot a Caddo that Joe Skipp had in his shop. It was SO SWEEEEET!!!!! Joe offered to let me "Take it home and play with it for a while" But I knew better.....(and so did Joe LOL) If I took it home,It would have found a "New Home"!!!!!

David, I have been done with that for a while. I will keep the KS's and I really wanted to have a LB just to have one. I may shoot it some even. I was just amazed at how quiet, quick and dead in the hand this bow is. Shawn

Shawn, Joe got me started back a few years ago in traditional archery. One of the things he had me do was shoot some of Roys bows. I now own three and it doesn't get any better than that!!! Good friends and great gear...who has it better than us?     Jan

Roy makes fantastic bows. He is usually at Stickbow Roundup at Chester, TX each year and brings a dozen of more bows with him. I've had an opportunity to shoot most of his models. My friend bought an Apache (cocobolo and birdseye maple with the bow bolt TD) and it is a joy in the hand to shoot.

Shawn, you'll probably find yourself shooting that bow more & more and before you know it...you'll be hooked on long bows.

I don't know why we don't hear more about Roy's bows.  Great bows and a good guy to do business with.  Another good one out of Texas you don't hear much about is Bob Sarrels.  As I prefer a more traditional "D" shaped longbow, I've thought about trading my Apache, but it just way too smooooooth to part with.  What's with Texas and all these great bowyers?

Starkman, I think I can answer your question with 3 names. Bob Lee, Jim Ploen and Buddy Stamper.

I have a bocote and rosewood 58" Apache currently being ignored on the classifieds which is a lot of fun to shoot. It is super smooth and the bamboo cores make it very quick with no handshock what-so-ever. The bocote veneers on the limbs also have some of the nicest grain patterns I have seen in a while.
Roy's bows also have one of the most comfortable handles out there. If I wasn't going to seriously try sticking to one bow, the Apache would not be for sale.
