I was invited to go nutria hunting Sat. That will be a first! The Pope&Young is a good time. Beautiful site with pastures to camp in and timbered hill sides for the shoot.

Good luck on your Oregon venture elkbreath!

Turkey season opens April 15th. Fair number of birds in the Linn County foothills.

Silver Gray squirrels (Western Gray) are legal to kill in the valley from Aug 27 to Nov 9, no limit. Grey Diggers (ground squirrels)are legal anytime you see one.

If you plan on hunting Blacktails during the rut, the area Lebanon has some good hunting in the foothills.  They taught everything they know to the Whitetail deer, but left out the minor details about being seen by hunters.    :readit:

Have fun!     :campfire:

The land is among the most beautiful places on earth. I would have moved there instead of Kentucky last May if it weren't for Oregon's progressive crowd. I grew up there, and even as a kid I new that just because an idea is new doesn't mean it's better or good.

Try to ignore the politics and social issues and you will enjoy your setting immensely.

Moving from WY to OR...wow, life's rough.  I moved from AZ to IN...not exactly the same tradeoffs!  Good luck and enjoy it.  I have some friends that live near Portland and they love it.

Reasons to live in Oregon over Wyoming (WYO will always be home) center around the WHY of of why I am moving.

we have 64 acres up there.  we can grow a garden that doesn't consist purely of kale and short herbs.  (we live at 7500 ft here).  We are living in a geodesic dome and after a bit, a yurt, That area of Oregon is much more forgiving temperature wise.  The humidity will give us issues, but those we can deal with.  A trade-off.

My animals will have great pasture land and plenty of water.  short grass in wyoming, when you're lucky to see it, let alone water!

My wife and I love organic fresh produce and sustainable living, and there aren't many places in the world more friendly to those ideas.

We run a Mobile pizza company.  We have stone ovens built on a trailer and take them to farmers markets and the like.  Incredibly good pizza in moments, with all-natural and organic fresh ingredients (sales-pitch :-)  ).  Again, that area is very ideal for this type of business, over the Laramie area for sure.

I love to fly-fish, love the rockies, the trees, all the stuff ya'll do.  And I here there's some pretty country in those Oregon hills!

Finally I agree entirely with this statement, "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy."  again, oregon has wyoming beat in this for healthy simple and incredible foods/drink.

The hunting I figure to be a wash.  I'll get in em with some determination and time.  And my kids will be able to shoot 24/7 there.  So, off we go.

Thanks again.

Definitely check out the Pope & Young shoot in Brownsville, and look up the TAB (The Adventurous Bowmen) camp spot.  Look us up, it will be great to meet you.  Lived in Wyoming for a year growing up.  Fantastic memories-I still miss the smell of Russian Olives blooming.

Snag, we need pictures!  Especially of the P&Y nutria you are sure to get!!

I want to welcome you to the most beautiful state in the USA and plumb full of progressive liberals. Overlook that if you can, I evidently can't, and enjoy the wonderful beauty of Oregon outdoors and the best climate in the world. At least here in the Rogue Valley. Bowhunting for just about every big game animal there is except Griz and Moose . Good fishing in places but just awsomely beautiful. However even the conservatives here are liberal. With a few exceptions. LOL. There are lots of places for your pizza truck though. God Bless and good Luck, Steve

Warning... Try to sleep next the "TAB" campsite is not an easy thing to do. These guys and gals have WAY too much fun! If you bed down early camp a good 100 yards from this camp site and bring ear muffs.   :biglaugh:   The best thing to do is just go join the fun.

This is an outstanding shoot you don't want to miss.    Kirk

Columbian Blacktail, Columbian Whitetail literally in my back yard. Roosevelt Elk 5 min. away.  Rocky mountain Elk and Mule Deer 2hrs. away. Speed Goat oh 2hrs. also. Gotta shoo the turkeys out of the way to get to work-honest. Don't tell anyone, it's a secret. The Whitetail keep their distance, but the Blacktails only come out at night!
