Thinking about getting one, anybody got any pictures, and pros and cons about the bow.
Thanks
Jeff

Sorry, no pics. Don't own one - yet. Saw some of the longbows at the Wes Wallace booth during the Western States Regional Rendezvous last spring. Beautiful bows. I've had an opportunity to shoot the longbows on a couple of occasions and I thought they shot as good as they looked.

Can't tell you anything about his recurves because I've never actually handled one.

I have a good friend with a Mentor for sale. I shot it last week at leagues... Sweet bow! Very quick and forgiving. Check it out in the classifieds here..

Bawana, very nice bow! The limbs look to be osage. But what is the wood used in the riser and tips? Bolivian rosewood perhaps?

I have had two Mentors and they are one of the few bows I've owned that I regret selling. Well made and Wes is a good man to work with. bows are first class in my book.
The essence of the hunt for me is to enter nature and observe+ return safely occasionally with the gift of a life taken.

Here is the one Kevin mentions that is on the classifieds. I've shot this bow a number of times. It's a great shooter! And pretty as well.

One of the best guys to work with, world class bowyer, a ton of bow for the money. Integrity as a bowyer and fellow man as good as they come. I have 3 Mentors and 3 Royal longbows. They are all works of art. If I wasn't working out of town I would send you photos of mine. No regrets.

1998 Wes Wallace Mentor w/ Low Wrist Riser; 64" Mentor, 50# @ 28

Cocobola and Yellowheart.  Bamboo limbs w/antler tips

I bought this bow on Tradgang about 3 years ago.  This was the first bow I've ever owned that was NOT fast-flight compatible.  I came close to selling it a few times, but never could let it go.  It just felt too good in the hand, worked well in the hunting woods... and, it just worked for me.

Now, I'll tell you a little story, and why I will buy from Wes again.
About 6 months ago, I had what I thought was a "Dacron problem".
The string loop, on the bottom limb, would soon become frayed (with a few strands actually / visibly cut).  Yes, I removed the string and discarded it, checked the limb tip grove for sharp areas... nothing!   Then, I put on a new string.  Well, a few days later I released an arrow and this time... the new string broke.  OUCH!!! No, there was no damage to the limbs (or me!), but I did call Wes after this happened.
Well, Wes felt he knew where the problem was and told me to send the limbs back to him and he would rework the limbs tips at no cost.  Now, remember, I am the second owner and this bow was built in 1998!
Below, is my bow, with the new limb tips.  Oh, did I mention that Wes paid for the shipping back to my home??!?!

I told my wife this situation: about the bow being built in 1998, about the repairs being at no cost and then asked her what she thought.  Her comment was simple and to the point and went something like, "He knew there was a problem.  He stood up, and corrected it.  That's what the good one's do".

P.S.  These limbs are now FF compatible!

This Mentor is my next bow, and I should have it in July (2011).

David,

That is just a plain incredible waaay above the call of duty.

I met Wes years ago, when I lived in Oregon, so long ago, I cannot even remember. He has definately been building bows for some time.  A story like this would put me at the "next bow to order"...
