"Fred Bear Feather Chopper" a Possibility
« on: February 15, 2011, 11:09:00 AM »
UPDATE: I emailed Johnathan Karch at 3Rivers Archery and suggested that they consider offering a feather chopper in the shape I've created as a tribute to Fred Bear (see the thread "Burning Feathers Like Fred Bear!") My design is based upon an accurate tracing of the actual feathers. I heard from Johnathan yesterday and they are talking about the possibility doing the chopper. Keep your fingers crossed.

FYI: I did not ask for anything in return for my idea or the use of my drawing. It's great shape and would be a nice connection for guys to have with Fred . . . a tribute carried in their quivers:^)

I bet they'll sell enough to make up for the cost of production.  Not sure if they'll be able to use Fred's name on it though.

Gary, I wouldn't be surprised to see 3 Rivers offer a chopper like you suggest. The company that makes them will make custom shapes. I had a custom shape made some years ago. I think there would be enough interest to carry a few in stock.IMO. I would like one myself.

It's my understanding that 3Rivers now owns the "chopper" so I guess they can develop whatever they want.  I also assume that they will be able to use Fred's name; they've been offering a "Fred Bear" hat?  When Fred was alive, and even afterwards when Frank Scott made the calls, it wasn't difficult to get their permission to use Fred's name or image for "good causes". Both men always gave me the thumbs up whenever I ask for ANYTHING. It was very informal and the buck stopped with them.

Sure hope 3R decides to make this chopper pattern. It is really close to what I cut now and a good chopper would be so much easier. Keep after them Gary! PLEASE!

I haven't heard anything more from them.  Hopefully they'll read this thread and see the need for marketing one.  Keep your fingers crossed.

I think this is a great idea and a tribute to Fred Bear. I really enjoyed the thread by Gary and his friendship and insight to Fred Bear. I'd be for buying this chopper if 3rivers offered it and would probably dig out my old bear broadheads from the 70's. I killed my first archery deer with one of those broadheads. My fingers are crossed!

I heard from Johnathan Karch at 3Rivers this morning and they are planning on making a decision on this in the next couple of weeks.  They would have done so already but some of the crucial players are currently at a sports show.

From what I'm hearing there is a good chance that a new "Fred Bear feather chopper" may be on the horizon.  Like I said, cross your fingers and if you'd like to see this happen why not post your approval here just in case the guys at 3Rivers are watching:^)!
