2113 raw shafts
« on: February 17, 2011, 11:21:00 PM »
I just bought a new thunderhorn and need some 2113 shafts.  when i went to my regular supplier i discoverd that they are not available any more.  i checked the easton charts and discovered the same.  The 2113 is spined the same as a 2016 but a lot lighter.  i tried some carbon epic shafts that are spined at 500 and they don't fly good.  i have some old 2113 and they fly perfect.   Where do you buy 2113 now a days or what carbon shaft is spined the same as a 2113. i am guessing that i am going to have to give up on aluminum shafts before i die.

Thanks

Kip

A carbon shaft with the same spine would be Carbon Express Heritage 90,it is very close to .540 spine. But it is hard to compare spines between aluminum and carbon and expect to get similar results. They may be close but react differently, they need to be tuned to your bow.A Heritage 90 is 9/32" diameter and a 2113 is 21/64" diameter, thats a difference that will affect tuning also. You should be able to tune carbons to your bow, plus a carbon is alot tougher of an arrow then an aluminum one especially one with a .013 wall thicknes.

Kip...I too refuse to drink the carbon cool-aid so have been buying up and hoarding shafts. No 2113s but I check blahbay constantly for the odd size shafts and they come up pretty regularly. 2016s are only about 30 gr heavier so that shouldnt affect arrow flight much or have you tried 2014 X7s ......

I have some 2113 AO's but I do shoot them. You can find them here and there and when you do,jump on them. Like said above,a 2016 isn't that far off on spine...just a bit heavier and they should tune for you. A 2114 shoots just the same for me as a 2113 so keep an eye out for those also. They spine the same as a 2113 with the 2114 being about 15gr or so heavier

Hey guys thanks for the help.  i found a member who had some 2113 with out the inserts. i bought them thinking that i was one step closer.  I then found some old 2113 that i had but only 11 left and only 11 inserts.  i am going to keep my eyes and ears open for the 2113.  I think my supplier has 2114's but i have never shot them and didn't know how they might react.  I put the 2113 shafts on my spine tester and they sure don't spine what Easton says they do.  however when i got to reading some old TG posts i learned that Easton doesn't use the same weight as the old spine scale of history used.  i wonder why easton changed the standard. Perhaps it is a metric thing.

I guess i should just give up and go completely back to woodies.

once again thanks for the help

I don't think it was a weight change.  They went from 26 to 28 inch centers.

If you found a carbon shaft spined exactly as a 2113 it wouldn't shoot the same, because of a smaller diameter.  I shot 2213's for years and hated them.  That thin wall shaft thickness stinks.  Hit that glancing blow on a 3D target and they bend not enough to throw away, but you know they'll never shoot in the same spot.  I did love the trajectory.

A long time ago, I used to shoot 31", 2113 arrows. When Easton discontinued the 2113, I went to the 2114s, but had to shoot them in a 32" arrow. The 2114 is what I presently shoot out of my 37# take down recurve. I did have to lower the brace height a little and drop down in point weight to make the 2114 arrow shoot like the 2113 arrow trajectory wise at 20 yards.
