Is there a bowyer out there makes a short recurve that is consistently accurate, quiet and generates no staking?

Dan Toelke makes a superb little 52" recurve. I have a 29" draw-no problem, there is nothing not to like, read Pete Ward's review of the bow, I came to the same conclusion he did, the little bow is a jewel. if you can get over to Ronan you ought to try one.

Shrew Lil' Favorite:

1. It has that wonderful, trademark Shrew grip.

2. It is perfect in the 54" length for a 28" draw (or shorter/longer).

3. It does not stack.

4. It shoots where you look with the right arrow setup.

5. It is light, handy and quick to action.

6. It is very well made and pretty.

7. It has great resale value because it is such a well-known, superior bow.

8. Gregg Coffey makes every Shrew himself, so the quality of each bow is totally in his control.

9. Legendary archer Ron LaClair is the original designer of the Shrew line of bows, and his impeccable pedigree is passed on in every Shrew that is produced.

10. You can get the Lil' Favorite in either a one piece or a two piece bow.

11. What's not to like? (I have 4 Lil' Favorites and a total of 13 Shrews because I really like them.)

All that said, if I could only own one model of Shrew, it would be a Classic Hunter as opposed to the Lil' Favorite. Everything I said about the LF is true about the CH. However, with the CH you lose the recurved limbs, but you gain some other advantages that are even better. Just thought I would mention that, even if you didn't ask.

I haven't shot a Shrew that I didn't like.
I've got 2, one longbow, and one recurve.  They both shoot the same, hit the same and pretty much feel the same.  They are quick, quiet, light, fast, and hit where your lookin'.  What more could ya ask for?  :archer2:

I have a 52" Fedora Stalker, probably similar to the Toelke 52" bow.  I'm still amazed at how smooth that bow draws every time I shoot it.

I'm kind of the new kid on the block here, but i build a very sweet shooting Bow called the"Yeti'
at 52" - 55" in length. These have a deep core narrow limb and are technically considered a long bow. but.... the reflex / deflex in thi design e have the same energy storage as a recurve.

The bottom line is a seriously high performance bow, with forgiveness built in.

all of these are smooth shooting at 28" draw, and the 55" goes to 31" before she stacks up noticeably. I've got a film clip of a 55" prototype that i lengthened the working section of the limb on a touch to get that smooth recurve feel to it.... check it out.

Allan,
This is the kind of information I was fishing for. It reinforces my desire to try a short bow again, especially whitetail hunting on the South Texas ranch I hunt on twice a year. I asked and you gave me what I needed.
Thanks,
Randy

For a short LB my vote is the Shrew CH.  Their recurve is also nice I hear, but I have not shot the short one.  I have not shot the others that have been posted so I don't know about them, but I have heard a lot of positives. I have shot the Hoots bows, and really liked the 54 and 56".  Both shot great for me with a 29 1/2" draw and shooting split finger.  They are designed to go up to a 30” draw. I am really looking at them hard for a short blind bow.  I hope to shoot them more at Compton to make up my mind.

I had the good fortune of shooting a 56" St. Joe River recurve, even at my 29.5 inch draw it was a great little shooter.  I have also picked up one of there 60" longbows (again short for me) and I can't believe how good this thing shoots.

For a short Longbow, try a Treadway Black Forest, as far as a recurve, I'll give you an update on my 56" Kwik Styk.

I also shot a 56" Static Tip RER CXR at Kalamzoo, that was fantastic... Must be something with Static Tips...
