Marines training with longbows in Primative Archery mag
« on: February 22, 2011, 08:51:00 AM »
In the latest issue of Primative Archer Magazine there is an article about U.S. Marines training with archery equipment. Anyone know of any other services using archery in training or wartime?

During Jungle survival training they taught us how to make bows and other equipment for survival.
Some people live an entire lifetime and wonder if they have ever made a
difference in the world, but the Marines don’t have that problem.

Heres a pic of one Bear that saw action in Vietnam.  Flamming arrows to burn down the tall grass along rivers.

Cool pic, TimZeigler.  Anyone know what they used for the flame?  I've read elsewhere how others have tried to shoot a flaming arrow but that the flame will go out while in flight.  Not that I would want to try it myself.  Just curious.  Plus, I would imagine you'd need a really extra long arrow or just not draw too far to keep from burning the bow hand and bow itself.

The indian army still teaches some of its special units to use these weapons, the 22 establishment is a unit that is comprised of tibetian soldiers and indian officers that operates on the china /indi border and they specialize in traditional equipment even though they have the most modern equip available.Yhe same applies to the naga comprised units in the indian army, they use bamboo crossbows.
