American Indian Bows

Just curious if anyone knows if any of the Native American Tribes ever made and shot recurves or just longbows?

In TBB books it shows that lots of the tribes used curved tips or semi-curved long bows...

Google the Lakota Sioux, particularly the Sheepeater Band.

Many of the Plains Indians and West Coast Indians made short recurves. Some of the Eastern Woodland Indiand made recurves but they weren't as short as the Plains or West Coast bows were.

Google up Penobscot Indians and you'll find a compound bow!  "Traditional" is in the eye of the beholder.

A number are illustrated in a book ("North American Bows, Arrows, and Quivers and Illustrated History") I bought from Edward R. Hamilton, booksellers.

You should be able to find all four of the Tradional bowyers bibles at either the nocking point or three rivers. also the North American Bows, Arrows, and Quivers and Illustrated History. Both sources carry several books on prinmitive bows also try the pimitive archer website for information.
