Hoyt Dorado

How do you think this bow would be for a first bow for my son?  How do they compare to other custom recurves?  Advantages or disadvantages of this bow?

It's a very good bow, very solid with a relatively small grip area I would warn you though they tend to go a little heavy on the limb weight, mine was a 50# but actually pulled 54#.

I think it would be a great bow but I ditto what Eugene says about the weight. You need to keep his  weight down anyway if he hasn't shot a recurve before and when you do choose a starting weight get it 5# lower on a HOYT. You can always trade and upgrade Dorado limbs and the resell seems to be pretty good on these bows, I should know because like an idiot I sold 2! Good luck

I bought a Dorado for my 15 year old daughter, and she loves to shoot it. It does have a small grip, tho & she has large hands. She has adjusted to the grip.

Does anyone know how the Dorado compares with the new Buffalo bow?

i have the dorado, gamemaster2, and excel. i have setup 2 buffalos for my local pro shop. i get dealer pricing and i still cant justify buying one. my dorado is my favorite bow! shoots smooth and quieter than the gm2 with less work:) the buffalo is nice but shooting it along side my other 3 bows...i only got a few fps difference.

one other thing to consider..for me at least, is i can use ILF limbs on all 3 of my bows. not so with the buffalo

I think the Dorado would be an excellent choice for your son. It's a very nice bow, solid shooter, and you could get a heavier set of limbs fairly cheap as he grows. It's not just a good "first" bow but works well for those of us with plenty of experience as well.

Can't go wrong with the Dorado. I have a Buffalo myself and I love it. I have two sons and couldn't afford to get them both new Hoyts but I went with Maddog to get them each one for $300 may want to look at Maddog yourself.
