Kasey my friend, you fit right in with our group and we were darn lucky to have you! We talked later and all of us were glad that you were the one to get a hog on our hunt. Congratulations again on a fine job!
Ray, as usual, you provided us with an unforgetable experience. As our PA license plates used to say, "You have a friend in Pennsylvania". It's like a homecoming when we round the corner into camp and greet you again.
We left 1/2 foot of snow and daytime highs in the 20's for mid 70's and sunshine! Man, did it feel good to get a sunburned face! Unlike our previous trips the conditions were perfect for hunting and seeing game. There was standing water in the swamps and ditches along the roads. Finally got to see the place at its' best.
I got my first good look at a wild hog on the very first afternoon. I was 20yd from two big ones and six piglets. The wind was right and I just had to wait for them to make the next move to make sure I didn't shoot a wet sow. Suddenly I was left there all alone as they raced out of sight! They sure don't stick around very long. I saw hogs at other times throughout the hunt but was unable to get within bow range. Everyone saw good numbers of hogs and some had very close encounters but the shot opportunity did not materialize for one reason or another. What a blast!
We saw squirrels, deer, turkeys, alligators, armidillos, and all sorts of birds including a large white crane that made my whole trip. What a special place! Before we left we made arrangements to return again next year. It is going to be a looong year, I'm ready to go back now!
