Opening day in WI with a Grizzly 190, passthrough, and about a 50yd weak blood trail.
Just curious how many of those Simmons shots are passing through, maybe I will give them a try. For me thats huge, two medium size holes are better than one big IMHO. Maybe I am wrong. To each their own, what ever flies straight and gives you confidence. I switched from woodsmans to grizzlys and am not looking back.

Hybridbow Hunter, are those "Big Jim" bh a VPA? You compare them to a "regular" VPA. How much do they weight?

Hey Wetfeet. I think it depends on your bow weight and how sharp you get the Simmons, but a lot of guys get pass-throughs without too much trouble. Once you get above 50 lbs, it is pretty easy to get two holes in whitetails. All you need to do is avoid the bones in the shoulder and you are set.

That said, if you switched away from woodsmans to get better penetration you should probably stay away from the Simmons. I do know that Charlie Lamb swears broadhead sharpness will add pounds to your bow, if that makes sense. I tend to agree that razor sharp broadheads will penetrate far better than dull ones. All that to say, if you are confident in your sharpening skills(the grizzlies and woodsmans both razor sharp), and you still want the Grizzlies over the woodsmans, the Simmons may not suit you.

I was using the Steel master to sharpen the Simmons and I got them sharp enough to shave, but I was not getting pass throughs but about half the time. I started using the Razors edge and hewlet jewel stick and I have shot 4 does and got pass throughs so far this year. The last one was quartering away and came out the off shoulder real low. The blood trail was 4 foot wide.LCH

Speaking of simmons, I use a file and then finish with a wheelie sharpener

Trumpkin,
Nothing against the simmons, I just like the single bevel concept. That being said. Using a heavy bow 60+ and a 800+ arrow lets you use whatever you want. as long as its sharp. To your point about bones, I think  both Grizzlys and the Simmons have the quality of steel to bust well. One I had a bad experience with is muzzy phatoms, it broke in half on a quarter in shot on a small doe. They come sharp as heck but they are so thin they dont hold well on certain shots.
