Northwind makes a beauty for a very reasonable price. It is a one man operation and Gerry makes a nice bow. He advertises in TBM.

Maddog's new 60" is very reminiscent of the older recurves. You can't go wrong with the bow, the service, the price and most importantly, the bowyer!

I don't think anybody has mentioned John McDonald, Big River Bows, he makes a nice 50's style. Somebody posted a '59 replica bow he made here once, which isn't what I'm talking about, but it was gorgeous nonetheless.

Vintage Works Bows makes '59 to '64 Bear Kodiak replicas that look really nice. I've heard good things about them too.

I hope I'm not hijacking, and sorry if this is a dumb question, but what is a "50's style" recurve?  Or should I ask what the difference is between a "50's style" recurve and any other recurve?  Just trying to learn is all.

Ed Q,50's style recurves is a term that was coined by bowyers when they started making models that roughly imitated the 1957 Bear Kodiak-an old classic model. The '57 Kodiak was a a slim riser recurve with a single shelf. The riser and handle looked similar to a long bow's but it was definitely a recurve and a good performing one. They didn't want to say 1957 Bear Kodiak in their descriptions but 50's style let people know.

50's style refers to a slim riser "old school" looking recurve like that.In 1959 Bear started putting a little more wood in the riser and the grip was starting to transition toward a pistol grip style that became the norm in the '60's and later.

Kohannah Kurve!!!!Lots of other good ones out there, too.
I like the light physical weight of a fifties style recurve and the added performance.
Plus, most importantly(to me)the looks and nostalgia.
