Static Recurves - Opinions& Pics
« on: March 08, 2011, 09:59:00 AM »
I would like your opinions and pictures of static recurvers. Why you like (or dislike). What Bowyer and why. I have a Browning Backpacker II that I shoot and like the looks of them too.

RER bows, one of the best out there. Quick, quiet, and even their short bows can handle longer draws. Kevin craftmanship is 2nd. to none as well! Look at their Arroyo! Shawn

I really like the static tips that Mike and Jason Westvang put out there...either the Dryad or the Black Mountain bows (they build both).  I have to admit that I am a longbow guy so my recurve experience is somewhat limited.

RER is tops IMO,. I also seen a Charing(SP) static recurve awhile back that I really liked. Never seen another after that.<><

Never shot the RER but heard good things about them. If you don't mind the wait, I'm partial to the Kempf Kwyk Styk. Shot many, sold many...super smooth and fast.

I know a TG'er who just got his new Kwyk Styk in last week....still waiting on the pics and he described it as a "rocket launcher". Most of the bowyers out there are building quality bows that shoot great. Matter of personal preference....

Mine was built by Sixby. I haven't had it long enough to really have a well-founded opinion, but so far, it has been positive. The pics below are from his website. The profiles aren't of my bow, but it looks very similar. The riser is from my bow. It shoots pretty quiet without silencers and seems fast. I haven't chronied any arrows yet.

I noticed many people say they're fast.  I'm no expert, I'm new to archery and have only shot my bear kodiak hunter but I would think the fact that the tips are static  as opposed to dynamic like 'normal' recurves they would have less energy and speed. I understand that the complete bow design effects speed so a quality bow can be fast with static tips but wouldn't it be faster with normal dynamic tips? Correct me if I'm wrong, I really like the way static tip curves look though!

Another thumbs-up for the RER Arroyo.

Chrono'ed it (60#@28" draw) the other day with 590-620 gn wood arrows w/ 190gn field points.  I had readings from 174 to 181 fps.  Yes, my release isn't as consistent as it should be.
