Cheap ceramic sharpener
« on: March 09, 2011, 03:57:00 PM »
I came across an article today on cheap ceramic broadhead hones.  The guy was taking the old 4 to 5 inch ceramic insulators used in early home wiring and mounting them to a handle to be used as a hone. I managed to scrounge a couple up from a salvage place and they work great and cost a couple bucks.  Just thought I'd pass it along for those who may be interested.

You have one in you dish cabinet.  Get a ceramic bowl and turn it over.  Work you BH on the oval.

My brother gets some kind of burned out light filaments from the mill where he works that are little sticks of some ceramic-looking stuff, quartz maybe?  Anyway, they make a great little pocket hone for knives or broadheads.

Wampus, I use the same things.  They are great in combo with an accusharp.

A ceramic sand blaster tip makes a great blade sharpener.

My wife makes pottery and has a kiln, so I get very good ceramic stones from her. I am thinking of trying to make one for concave heads.....hmm
