The Goldtip Traditional Hunter arrow comes with EZ-pull screw-in points or glue-in points. I buy the screw-ins so I can swap with broadheads when I hunt. I'll admit I shoot a light arrow at just under 400 grains...the 1535 shaft at 30 inches uncut with a 125gr point gives me a good spine match for pulling 27" on my 45# recurve.
Now then. The shape of the GT EZ-pulls makes them bounce out of carpet butts about half the time at 30 yds and further. "So what?" you ask...well beyond ethical hunting distance for most of us. I care because I'm competing in 3D and field archery more than I hunt, so shooting some long distances, so I like a light, fast arrow with a flat trajectory.
I'm chrono'ing at 180+ fps so I don't think it's a speed thing. I know it's partially the weight, but I think it's also the shape of those EZ-pulls (they flare out wider than the arrow shaft width to intentionally reduce penetration).
Goldtip's website says the O.D. of the 1535 Trad Hunter is .296". That translates to 19/64". The only aftermarket field point I can find in a 19/64 at 125 grns is the Saunders Combo point. A great field point--but I can't find a Tradgang sponsor who sells that point at that size. The only distributor I can find who sells those exact points "is not and will never be" a Tradgang sponsor....
Any thoughts? I just wanted to inform, for anyone else shooting the 1535's.
