I hope every arrow you guys get out of this trip ends up bringing down meat for you.

I am convinced that you deserve it, as I am also convinced that they have already drawn some blood from each of you...lol

Be sure to show us the finished product.

God bless,Mudd

Mudd,
Most of these shafts'll wind up being used for small game and stumps. Don't wanna think about how many carbons and surewoods I went through last year shooting at frogs, squirrels, and stumps. But I am setting some aside for some knapped heads...

Curt,
I keep thinking how cool would it be for someone to take a Selkirk bunny with a Selkirk arrow? And yeah, We found a Heritage arrow in decent shape. Can't imagine how many arrows still litter the area...

I've got about 20 acres of MFR behind the house.  You can come get all the shafts you want as long as you cut the rest of the stuff down!

Miserable plant.  At least you guys can find some "good" in it.

Thanks Shawn. I, too, had a great time.

This is what the finished product'll look exactly like in a month or so. Team Pink Primitive...

Chris - sometime you'll have to show me your straightening method.

John,

Nothing special, really. Keen eye, steady hand, and a lot of patience. That, and as many have said, bundling is the key. I like to bundle 'em up with a big dowel or broken broom handle. Gives em something to work towards.
I will say though that I am experiment with heating the worst bends and then using a vice to straighten them. Seems to be working quite well...

I cut some Cane last fall to see how it would work for shafts. Everything that I read says that you need to use heat to straighten. I have not used heat before and I thought that you were using heat. Let me know what you find out with the heating experiments.

  Thanks - John

John,

Cane is an enitrely different material. Heat seems to be the only thing that gets cane straight. But rose and dogwood shafts go through a stage where they seem almost plastic. Very easy to flex and bend by hand alone during the few weeks after cutting. Makes it real easy to work with.

Yup, I do not work with it, but bundled it up to ship and I put a couple good straight shafts in with it and tied it every 4 inches or so. Looks pretty straight. I am shipping it it Arkansas in a few minutes!! Hopefully I get to see some shafts made from itm in the near future. I sent a bunch to the "ferret" Mickey Lotz some years ago and he got shafts that spined 30#s all the way up to right near 50#s, most seemed it the low to mid 40's! Shawn

Just looking at the pictures of the cut rose shafts and the patch of multa floral rose, and the cut ones all seem to be redish in color, but the patch all seems to be green?  Or am I just color blind?
