Arrow Build Along(pic heavy, completed page 2)
« on: March 13, 2011, 07:56:00 PM »
Im making my new arrows for turkey season and I decided to make a arrow build along for them.
Arrows are Carbon Express Predators II

First picture is my setup.

First step was to get the label off the arrows. I learned how to do this from One Stringer. What you have to do is get paint thinner or lacker and put it on a paper towal and rubb it against the the label untill it comes off completly.(wearing a pare of rubber gloves for this would not be bad idea though)

Next was to put the wraps on the arrows that i got from One Stringer.

First thing I did was to clean them with rubbing alchohal.

Next was to put the wraps on the arrows. I was unable to get a picture of my self while putting the wraps on but here is the after.

Thats all I did today. I will continue them tomarrow.

One thing im struggling with is whether to use traditional feathers or parabolic feathers. Which would you use?

We sell 100 shield cut feathers for every parabolic we sell. That ought to tell you what is more popular at least out of our shop.

Part One of getting the turkey feathers ready to go after splitting the feathers. With alot of help from my dad, the next step was to grind and trim the feathers using the table saw and a sanding disk.

Now for the grinding part.

Once they are grinded we cut down the extra width that was not needed.

Part 2 for the feathers will be soon once i decide what shape feather to use. Once again its between Parabolic and Tradtional shaped. What one would you use?

Great thread. I just tried carbon and like them. I want to build my own like above. Why do you remove the label??? I would thing the wrap would cover... perhaps the label will not stick as well to the label. I have heard that appling the wraps is tricky. The wraps in these pics are soooo good looking. I LOVE a nice looking arrow but am not very handy but from what I see, I can do this.

My guess is because the label is ugly to look at.

I have received my feathers and I have decided to go with parabolic shaped feathers. I will continue the build along tomorrow.

Thanks Schafer

Then is was off to the fletching jig.

Once all the feathers were on it was time to apply a small amount of glue at the end and the front of the feather
