Carbon arrows for very light (kids) bows?
« on: March 17, 2011, 09:12:00 PM »
How d'ye!  In anticipation of getting a couple of new bows for my wife and 10 year old son, I was just wondering what some of you all might recommend for a starting point as far as carbon arrows are concerned.  I shoot carbons and woods and I do like the carbons for their durability.

My son's will be 25#@25" and he draws at 21".  My wife's will be 29#@25" drawing at 23".

I shoot GoldTip Trads... but even the GoldTip 15/35's seem way too over-spined... using Stu's calculator, they'd have to be really long or have some ridiculous weight up front!

Any ideas to what carbons might work for them?

Never tried any 15/35s, but I've had decent luck with PSE radial x-weave 100's full length with 125grain heads with a PSE Snake recurve (20# @28") the bow is essentially a 20# Genesis bow w/o the wheels.  The dad 6'4" and sons 4'6" shoot them equally well with feathers. Got the shafts cheap at a bow shop going out of business, so just find the cheapest, lightest wt, longest shaft you can buy and front load it with heavier field tips and tape on some feathers.  Then, roll a strip of reflective tape b/t the nock and feathers to help find them in the grass with a flashlight after dark - easier to find that way    :)     Good luck.

I would look at some Easton Axis Junior arrows, they are for bows under 40# and they are 28" long. These Axis don't cost much like full size Axis.I believe they are around $40-45 for Junior arrows. You may also look at CE Thnuderstorm Junior arrows.

If you like the Gold Tips like I do you should look at the youth Falcon arrows that they offer, I believe you can find them at Bowhunters Superstore.
