Thanks for all the great comments guys:
I ordered the blank about 2 years ago to take with me when I went on Bearquest. But the bows didnt get here in time. I orderes a pheonix for a Girlfriend, which is gorgeous and she loves it, and this blank. Well needless to say it sat in my basemet till winter when I decided to pick it up. I was really afraid cause I literally had NO tools and No place to work. So the majority of the work was done with the bow in my lap, and with a dremmel tool. Ya no kidding holding a bow with 1 hand and dremmel in the other is NOT and easy task. after the majority of the shaping was done I cut the string grooves, This was a very Nerve racking taks as I was afraid to mess up I bought a $10 set of files and went to work they turned out Ok But dodnt do any shaping of the tips. a few months after I was scheduled to go to Pig Gig with the Wensels and I knew that PV would be there and he has mad his own bows and offered to help me finish the string grooves and lend some other advice and that we did. The bow was now a year old. when I got home I knew there was more work to do but it just sat there and I was thinking I would build a bench first to finish the work. The bow once strung with the grooves cut, was 60# @28" way too much for me. So I think I got a bit discouraged too..
Plus I have MANY bows I like to shoot....So why work when you can play SO a YEAR later (now) I was asked to go on a pig hunt in TX of course NOT going to pass this up. So i thought it would be a Great time to GET THIS DONE! and I just went to town on it, sepent about 6 hours a day for the last 3 days Finishing it up to take with me. A couple questions here and there and lots of reading in Between. I got it done. I found upon shaping the tips and the upper Limb, that the started to twist, so I had to shave off the sides to make it right, Man what a task that is to the Un trained person... The advice I got was "sand about 10 strokes" etc yadda yadda....# hours later I was hitting this thing with a rasp out of frustration and thats where it all came together. the tiller was off a bit once but it was a quick fix... Overall I'm very Pleased.
the bow:
Pau ferro Riser
Bamboo under Clear Glass
spec: 54#@28" 64"
I'm surprised how well it shoots too.
I finished it with 7 coats of deft.
I even sanded in Finger grooves on the back of the riser that you can see in one of the pictures fits me just right..
More pics to come....
