do you wear your hunting clothes for casual wear?
« on: March 26, 2011, 02:20:00 PM »
in the last couple years i have picked up some awesome wool coats and shirts that are just to nice to put up for hunting season. vintage Woolwrich and Pendelton are some good looking clothes. i know i should put them in my plastic tubs with my other hunting clothes but i just can not bring myself to do it! how about you?

Unless you plan to live forever, you probably won't wear some of those wool clothes out hunting.

Use them for both.  If you wear them out, get more.  My wife sews, so I get great wool shirts for very little.  I get both pate' and blood on them.

That's baloney, I hate pate'.

I try to keep my hunting clothing and expensive merino wool long johns for hunting only...works ok.  The trouble is my hunting clothing is generally of better quality than my everyday outdoor clothes, which are pretty much Carhartt bibs and jackets.  I usually leave the merino packed away since I have lots of inexpensive poly underwear, but sometimes that nice warm, windproof stuff works to good to sit in the tubs for nine months of the year.

Some of my stuff, like my Asbell and Ron LaClair pull overs, are in plastic tubs for hunting only.  But I have a few Woolrich vests and a nice wool jacket that I wear at other times.  Oh, I wear my home-made camo tee shirts all the time.

All the time Ken. Like you, these wools are too nice to leave in the hunt closet. "Traditional GQ".

Greetings Ken!

I wear huntin' wool routinely at work, at home, and in the field.

It looks good, holds up well, and gets softer with use.

I wear my wool hunting clothes all the time because its just too good to put away. I wear Filson vests and my Yukon jacket whenever I feel like it even to formal occasions. Another reason to forsake camo. Strangely I wear camo to just hang around and as casual wear more than I wear it hunting. I dont usually wear wool thermals other than while hunting.

Wool gets worn when not hunting, but just in off season. During hunting season, cleaned/air and used just for hunting.

I try and not wear my camo any other time than when hunting! The stuff is expensive, more expensive than my everyday clothes anyway.  I need it to last as long as it can.

Have been stockpiling wool for both. You just cant beat it for comfort. Constantly buying more and selling other stuff off. I try to keep the hunting stuff seperate to keep the heavy oders out.

I've been wearing plaid wool shirts, L.L. Bean, Pendleton, Woolrich, Melton, etc., for hunting and casual wear for about 50 years now.
