Cleaning some old feathers?
« on: March 27, 2011, 11:48:00 PM »
Hi All,
I have found a bunch of old, dirty feathers that will make for good fletching once I clean them up. What is your preferred method of cleaning feathers for fletching? Should I avoid using soaps on the feathers?

Thanks.

I use dish detergent, primarily Dawn.  Just wash them in warm soapy water.  Rinse and shake them out.  Lay them on paper towels to dry.

Each year i get dozens of Goose feathers during their molting time and washing them in the bathtub as i described.

GoodLuck and let us know how it goes.

Thanks Jack, they have cleaned up very nicely with dish soap. Now to get into some fletching!
