String questions
« on: March 28, 2011, 08:00:00 PM »
My serving on my sting has come undone. Anyone know why is would be made of monofilament? Seems odd to me. I have seen this on stings for purchase online as well. Can i just have it reserved with regular serving material? Im shooting an old bear kodiak magnum and just used the string that was on it when I got it. Does anyone have suggestions on a string for this bow? My friend just got a bow to start this trad thing with me. His string seemed much smaller in diameter (flemish I guess?). I assume this would mean more/better performance?

Cat, the older bows had mono for serving. What year is your Mag.?

Also, what weight are you shooting? If its 50 and under, which is the norm for the older Bears, a 12 strand dacron would work fine! Either flemish or endless!

And yes, you can reserve with another material, too.

Sir, I have no clue what year the bow is, just that it is old. It is a 50lb kodiak Magnum with factory camo paint. Does that give you an idea of the year? Thanks for the tip!

Reserve the string yourself.  Very simple, someone here will pop on with directions.  Saw a great one here in the past.

It sounds like the string is old. Or at least you don't know how old it is.
Buy a new string. ..?
With recurves the string is usually 4" shorter than the bow (with exception)  ...

Cat, start fresh and order a string! 12 strand, with your choice of colors.

Then, in a few weeks, take it Bowfishing!

If you get into repairing or making your own strings, use braided nylon for you serving material.  Like mono, it comes in different diameters but will last a whole lot longer.
