Skunked again- Az Elk draw
« on: March 29, 2011, 11:53:00 PM »
Well, for the 4th year in a row I was not drawn for elk...I know there are many who have been trying for much longer, but I am frustrated with the huge increase in rifle elk tags and the decrease in archery tags.

Anyone else able to commiserate with me?

Jethro

My son and I got skunked too. He had 7 points. I hunted a limited opportunity unit last year but really wanted him to draw this year. Just sent an email off to him in Afghanistan with the bad news.

Gonna try and put together some other hunt for when he returns. Maybe a first time try at Colorado Elk.

I was also thinking about a Colorado hunt.

It IS tough to feel sorry for you Arizona guys, but I do feel your pain.  You DO have all kinds of great OTC deer to hunt, AND what about bears in the prickly pears?

Since I have your attention, do you guys know any   EXCELLENT mountain lion guides?

Colorado is looking better and better every returned check... That's ok, I'll just have to focus on the deer, turkey and possibly bear hunting this year! Keep them points coming and soon I'll get that Unit 1 or 27 tag...

I feel your pain. I had 12 points also. NOT DRAWN. I got advised to stick it out for Unit 9 or 10. Maybe next year. Cross my fingers for New Mexico.

Grats Azhunter! I am a huge fan of 1, 27 and possibly 10. Every time I am in any of those areas I've seen lots of elk. My last hunt up near Hannigan's Meadow I saw over 60 elk, 30+ big horn sheep (mostly little ones) and I quit counting the turkeys. Awesome trip except for lack of bucks - only 2 seen.

I got a cow tag in 7E. Was my 2nd choice. It's a new unit for me. Gave up on 6A, they gave most of the cow tags to the rifle hunters and combined the whole unit into one. Lost my 6A west paradise.lol So, I have a new place to scout and I really enjoy that. Scouting is half the fun of the whole deal for me. Good luck to all who drew and my condolences to all who didn't....bill
