Refinish old Kwyk Styk or Leave as is ?
« on: April 02, 2011, 10:14:00 AM »
What would you do? I have a friend that was lucky enough to be good enough friends with Jack Kempf  to get handed down the first Kwyk  Styk Jack ever built for himself, this Bow is named the Clunker! and Jack Hunted for years with this bow after the poundage got too much for Jack he gave it away ,well the new owner was talking at dart and I overheard him ask Jack to refinish the riser as he is getting a new set of limbs for the Clunker, I tryed to talk him out of refinishing it as he will loose all the good Mojo from the Clunker what do you think

well if I were going to hunt with the bow and the finish is old enough or bad enough any amount of moisture could get in and may damage the riser. Then yes I would for sure refinish restore respray reoil whatever but I would for sure reseal it to prevent any moisture damage ? bd

Gord !
The Clunker! As Jack showed me doesn't have any wear and tear on the riser that requires any resurface attention. I agree the Good Mojo would be important to me.  I would put the new lighter limbs on and work it. What a wonderful gift.   Ken

No way I'd touch those limbs! Partner, those character marks come with serious purpose from one of the best!

Second doctor opinions are nice and sometimes invaluable. However, we sometimes search and search unitl we obtain an opinion that we wanted to hear in the 1st place.

What Bowdoc said !!

I have several older bows, 20 to 30 years old.  Many with bumps and bruises that remind me of the hunts i was on.  I love my bumps and bruises.  Wouldn't have it any other way.

Same bow, just a new finish.  Even I take a bath and clean up sometimes.  My wife says it helps my "mojo" (not sure about that).  Don't see why it couldn't help a well worn bow either.
