Arrow making /polyurathane and glue
« on: June 18, 2007, 05:34:00 PM »
Hello,

I am planning on making up some arrow shafts for some 4H  kids to fletch this weekend. I've ordered all the peices that I couldn't get otherwise. I originaly was going to do cane arrows. But with the lack of time to do the straightening I decided on 1/4 dowels. I picked up 50 of them today and hope that will be enough.

My question is Will fletch tape work with Minwax wipe-on poly. I already have it and could easily put on a coat of it on these this week so the kids can do the fletching this saturday. Or should I just leave them bare. I have knocks and points on the way and have glue for them. The thought was to let the kids make thier own arrow and personalize it after they get the feathers on. Unfortuantly I don't have a crester.

Anyway let me know if I should seal them or leave them bare.

Thanks
Jason

Hey Jason, I use the Minwax fast drying poly to seal mine. I also use fletch tape and it does a great job on the poly. I use foam brushes and and light coats, even the fast dry poly takes about an hour or so to dry though. Not sure about the wipe on.

Yes, seal those puppies up! The fletch tape is a miracle.
