Clicker installation help
« on: April 04, 2011, 06:42:00 PM »
I recently bought a used clicker and it came with no instructions. I am installing it on a longbow. There is no chain on this one, it was removed and replaced with string. Can someone please tell me:

1. how far down from the top of the upper limb do I install it?

2. Once I locate where the clicker is going to go, does the string mount straight across from the clicker, or at an up or down angle?

3. How do I actually set it up for my draw?

4. And lastly, how do you secure the string so it does not pull out of the bow string?

Thanks in advancee for any help.

1. where ever you decide to put it will be fine
2. straight across or a slight angle is fine, just eyeball it becasue it's not really crucial
3. thread the rope thru your bowstring & come to full draw... the rope will pull thru your string... that will get you real close to where you want to have it set
4. tie a knot in the rope so it can't pull back thru the bowstring... trim the excess rope... you may want to serve the knot into the string to keep it from sliding up & dow the string as well

I hope that clears it up a little for you.

If you scroll down to the shooters forum and search there you will find a bunch of info.  Some of the threads even include pictures, that is where I got all the info for mounting mine.  Good luck...Mike

I put it about 7 to 9" from top limb tip with the screw end of the clicker toward the tip. Straight across will work fine. With a flemish twist string I use a sharpie to mark the spot on the string where the clicker string will meet the bow string. Then unstring the bow and separate the string bundles and pull the clicker string through. Set the string longer than you think at first. use an arrow of known length and keep drawing and adjusting clicker string until you can come to comfortable anchor and then just a bit more pull through(1/8th" maybe less ) and it clicks. When adjusting string length do NOT overdraw the clicker. It could cause it not to click anymore. The knot is a good Idea but I like to burn the clicker string with a lighter. The small mushroom left by the lighter will not let the string pull through. Also I tie a super knot just above the clicker string , on the bow string to prevent it from sliding up the string. Super knot is the same knot used to tie on nock locators so tie it tight. Good luck. The clicker takes me from a not so good shooter to a competitive shooter.....
