Strong or Weak?
« on: April 09, 2011, 02:09:00 PM »
Hi all,

My broad head arrows are consistently hitting 2inches right of my field points. Does this indicate a weak or strong arrow?

Whats the shooting distance? If you are right handed, this does indicate that these arrows are a shade weak.

If you are right handed it would usually mean weak.

Occasionally, with too stiff an arrow, the arrow bounces of the edge of the shelf and will give a "false weak" indication by going right. If that is happening, there should be increased noise when it hits the shelf and it may even leave a slight rub mark.

Normally,it just means slightly weak.A slight increase in side plate thickness would probably correct it.

At that range, 2 inches off tells me that you are SO close to perfect. Make teensy adjustments, man. Itsy-bitsy-teensy.

For me, 2" right at 22 yds. means I am shooting a great group!    Gerald

Build your side plate out a tad.

Broadheads will often show weak because they make the projectile a bit longer. For that reason I use a heavier FP than BH to tune both the same.

Thanks Bjorn... So how do you know what grain broad head to purchase?

My target is FP 25 gns heavier than the BH and some BH are longer than others; when you find something that works stick with it. BH's also lose  weight from sharpening, especially a head like a Grizzly. LOL! A grain scale can be real handy.
