Boy , thanks guys. Yes liquid amber hit the nail on the head, this book lead me on a journey learning more about Howard Hill . This was going to before Howard was famous, an area we knew little about.
The book starts in the mid 20s and takes you through the exploits of Howard and Don.
Great bunch of history and as stated before ,pictures of Howard never seen before.
After publishing ( as Charlie said, no easy task) I sent copies to the surviving sons of Don and Ruth, they sent some great archery history pieces to add to the collection, one of the bows Howard made for Don in the late 20s ( story in book) As well as both Howards and Don's beaded headbands from the archery club they were in. They all had indian names for the club, Howards was Big Chief one shot and Don was known as Young Chief Little Goat( another story in the book). Ruth sent before her passing a scrapbook of Don's that has decades of archery history and articles involving Howard Hill, magazine and news paper adds and articles.
She told me when she sent these items as well as the manuscript , " Thank God I found you as my family does not care about archery and this stuff would be thrown in the trash when I die".
Wow what a loss that would have been . I knew when I received this manuscript I was being handed a batton and that it was my job to preserve this story. The book is dedicated to Howard as well as Ruth Carson, who kept the book safe all those years.
