Shooting a 52" bow

My father found a 52" Ben Pearson Hawk Bow.

It says 45lb at 28" but feels like it would break if I pulled it back to my drawlength. (28 ")!  

Is this a Kids bow?

It should shoot fine and make an awesome bow for hunting out of a blind. My wife has a 42# @ 28" kwikstyk that I shoot with a 29" draw, its great. I just made some arrows up -480 grains and the bow absolutely launchs them. The light weight makes it easy to get a clean release with the short length.

I have a 52" Red Wing Hunter that hits a wall at 28" and also feels like it's ready to blow if I full draw it to my normal 29".  I tend to short draw it and only keep it for blind use almost exclusively.  I bought it new in 1969 and just can't let it go.

I just made a trade for a Ben Pearson 52". Hope I did the right thing, should be in this week. The guy I made the trade with said he's hunted with it and its a good shooting bow (with a draw of 28"). I'll know more after this weekend when I get to shoot it.

It is marked at the industry standard of @28, so It is fine at 28".

I have a 52" Wing and I can draw to 30"s with no problem. It does start to stack at 29"s but no ill effects on the bow. Shawn

Not familiar with the Hawk, but I have a Pearson 52" Mach I that draws easily to 28", and for some reason is just about the quietest recurve I've ever shot.

Short bows can be a lot of fun to hunt with, especially out of a ground blind.  Unfortunately they can be a problem for long draw archers.  I had a great 52" Wing Thunderbird that I bought new in 1969 and loved to shoot, but it blew up on me in Colorado on a mule deer hunt many years ago.  With a 30" draw I learned my lesson!

I have a 52" stealth that pulls smooth to past 29" so if you try several bows you will find some that will draw smooth to 29" much past that well I havent seen many,my 52" Bear Kodiak Mag starts to stack by 28" not many shoot short bows well unless they have a short draw under 28"

Thanks for this thread... I'm shopping for a new bow to shooot from a pop-up and this has set my mind at ease about short bows
