50 yard attempt
« on: April 19, 2011, 08:51:00 PM »
Tried to hit a life size pig target at 50 yards this afternoon.  I'm shooting Mike's 43# Maddog midsize longbow and using my 5/16 woodies with 165 up front.  I'm liking this bow more and more.

just think of the days of old ,they shot 75-100 yards at game ,
i read it in traditional bowhunter one time ,had some good black and white photos of guys shooting at deer across a field.

My garden area between my straw bales and that house is about 20 yards wide.  Haven't missed bad enough to have an arrow escape the garden area yet even after shooting over the bales. Besides the lady that lives there knows I shoot just about every day and doesn't mind at all.  I watch for her and vice versa.

I started shooting longer range after reading about it in my last issue of TBM.  I can honestly say I believe it has helped me.

The .92 arrow flys pretty good doesn't it.  I'm still amazed that something I built flys so well.

PAC what brace height do you have set. My son just got his midsize maddog recurve and I'm just curious.

i shoot at 55 yds with my recurve pretty regularly, it definately helps improve your shooting. its also very satisfying to score hits!  :archer2:

Great job!
I firmly believe shooting longer ranges helps with shooting at closer ranges.  Or perhaps that's how I justify partaking in the extremely enjoyable act of watching an arrow fly 40 yards across the yard.

BU1 my brace height is 6 1/2".  You're boys will have to tinker with their own brace height to figure out what shoots best for them but maybe knowing where mine is can help with a starting point.

Here I make a great shot and do I get any whoop de do's cheer from the wife?  No! All I get is critisism.  Some people are just impossible to impress.  :p

Good shooting.  Thanks for making the bow look good too.  I try to explain that if they buy a Maddog they'll be nailing targets at 50+ yards.  (kidding, never actually told anyone that)

Nice shot Pac.  If you don't mind me asking, what are the specs on your bow?

Good Job

The longer distances are fun, there's an 80 yard target at my range I always try to throw a few at each time I go, it's pretty awesome when it hits

Good shooting there bud.   :clapper:
I practice as often as I can out to 60 yards & from 40 yards down to 5 yards I can make a target shot that I'd be confident in a clean kill if it was a real animal but I'll keep my hunting shots to less than 30 yards.  ;)

One day I hope to be as effective at 50 as you are.
