Stumping ,shrooms,and ground blinds........
« on: April 25, 2011, 03:34:00 PM »
Well it stopped raining for a bit so I decide to go stump'n and look for morels. Grabbed my longbow and my back quiver and off I went to some State land 15 min. from the house. Now it's easy to say when no one is looking ...but I shot great!!! Best I have shot in 2 years.I think it's still to cold for morels didn't see any. While roaming around I came to an edge, pines and white oak on a finger ridge next to a drainage. The spot just looked like a deer would want to be there.......so I started to build a ground blind. Some old pine tops, some limbs and next thing you know it's 3/4 done and I have another spot to sit. Not a bad way to spend a cold and crappy day......did I mention I shot real well???????

Good on you.  Last week I went back to a spot I had noted in the past fall that would make a good ground blind spot except that it was a bit bare and added a pile of a half-dozen pulled stumps.  Has cover now!

I haven't seen any morels but with this past month of rain and the forecast for rain every day this week I am looking forward to raking oysters and digging clams in the yard pretty soon!

I also went out and did some scouting and a little trout fishing. No fish but found a honey-hole for deer though.Always wanted to check this spot out, glad I did.Lots of rubs and scrapes from last fall,Have to scout now because things are to thick come summer.Put in 4ground blinds, can,t wait for bowseason now...........

One of my favorite ways to spend the day.  Stumping around and building blinds with an eye to the future.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

It's amazing to me that even when working on shooting and just relaxing in the woods, you have tendency to still be hunting or thinking about a good spot to hunt and when you notice one you have to make the most of it and build a ground blind.....heck I may never even sit in it!

I plan on doing the same thing this weekend! I love building my own blind too. I have never hunted for morels or even tasted one. But I'm looking forward to it!

Had my Spirit longbow, I saw no turkey sign but over on the state land it's tough, not much to eat and a fair amount of people can be hiking and such!
